The standard we build to

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA — the current version of the standard that U.S. and California accessibility law look to. Pages are checked against it automatically every time the site is changed.

What that means in practice

• Text meets or exceeds the contrast WCAG requires, and body text is near-black on white.
• Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator, and a “Skip to content” link on every page.
• Pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen and to 400% zoom without scrolling sideways.
• Images carry text descriptions; images that are only decoration are hidden from screen readers.
• Links and the current page are never shown by colour alone.
• Animation is kept to a minimum, and switched off if your device asks for reduced motion.

Known limitations

This site is being rebuilt. Some older pages, and some PDF documents carried over from our previous site, may not yet meet this standard. If you need any of them in another format, ask and we will provide it.
